USDA Organic Research Grants
The Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) and Organic Transitions (ORG) represent cornerstone competitive grant programs administered by USDA-NIFA.
The OREI program aims to fund high priority research, education, and Extension projects that will enhance the ability of organic producers and processors to grow and market their products. Projects funded through OREI focus on building general knowledge of organic production, economic and ecological benefits of organic production, developing new cultivars for organic production, and whole-farm systems studies. The ORG program is geared toward supporting research into scientifically based management practices that help producers transitioning to organic production. Projects funded through ORG focus on assessing and providing solutions to barriers that producers face in transitioning into organic production, as well as documenting ecosystem services associated with that transition.
