Organic fertilizers, many of which supply crop-essential nutrients in a slow-release manner, are known to improve soil health but can be difficult to implement, due to complexities timing nutrient availability with critical crop growth stages. This study evaluated the impacts of integrating summer cover crops with traditional slow-release fertilizers on organic vegetable growth/performance in Florida.

Integrated Effects of Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation and Beneficial Microbes in Strawberry Production
Anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) and microbial soil inoculation are emerging, NOP-compliant alternatives to soil fumigation for managing soilborne pests, weeds, and diseases. In this study, researchers at Virginia Tech evaluated the efficacy of ASD (with and without microbial soil inoculation) and chemical soil fumigation as strategies for managing fruit rot, weeds, and post-harvest fruit quality in strawberries.
